1212, 1.82 feet melinda & jed matt & breann, andy dolly lake, loon, fly
melinda took a lot of great photos on this trip, many of the lower end rapids. it was great to have her on my cat to take these photos, but it was even better to have her around camp! not only did i take her on this river trip, but i also had her snag the permit......you see i already snagged a lottery cancellation for over labor day when i am taking my dad along......so i could not get a second one.
dome hole creek enters the middle fork just behind us parked here at greyhound.
breann, matt, andy (xm radio man) melinda and jed ready to leave fly enroute to cache bar.
breann & matt run porcupine
the character of redside is easy to see at low water.
andy waits to see as the rest of us line up on weber.
weber presents few problems if you choose the right line......and have no bad luck!
looking back at upper cliff side rapid as we line up for lower cliff side rapid.
melinda and i line up for lower cliff side.....left......stay left!
andy finishes the run at lower cliff side.....no we are not about to flip.......i think melinda just snapped one off balance.....maybe i hit a rock!.....it's easy to hit rocks at these levels......you don't even need to try ;)
matt & breann....break time at otter bar
breann snags our camera and snaps one of melinda and i.
looking back up stream as the others finish up rubber.
in the middle of hancock with that one rock you have to avoid in view.......stay right and enjoy one of the best rapids on the river!
even in low water hancock is fun and has some good waves.....as these great shots by melinda show........at 4 feet it's even better.
devil's tooth.........no left run at these levels.....you have to run the middle slot....enter moving left to right to avoid pinning on the left hand rock....then drop onto the shelf rock below while you also straighten out so you can punch the hole it makes.
punching the hole below the shelf rock........at low low levels the shelf rock is almost dry.
there is also another rock to miss just below the shelf rock hole. in higher flows it makes a nice hole of it's own and at lower flows it is somewhat exposed.
the approach into house rocks. we always go left.
clamshell rock with 1,250 cfs flowing past it. click here to see it at a higher flow
clam shell rock.......we go left, but in higher flows i think you can go right as well. at 6.75 feet this rock is basically under water. running left around clam shell rock, notice the nice parking garage on the downstream side.
